About

Welcome!

My name is Juan J. Rodríguez Barrera. I received a BS in Criminal Justice and English from Rutgers University (2013) and a PhD in American Culture from the University of Michigan (2023). Existing at the intersection of American and African American studies, my scholarship and teaching focus broadly on literary multiculturalism and 20th-century African American culture, literature, and history, with a particular emphasis on the Black literary Left of the Great Depression and Cold War eras. I am currently Assistant Professor of English at Illinois Wesleyan University. As the tagline above says, this site is a digital space dedicated to my ever-expanding and -evolving research and pedagogy. Check back often for new content.
